Tips for Kosher Travelers
- Eat all meals on the ship — There are no kosher food options in Juneau. Have breakfast at the Solarium Bistro before heading ashore, and plan your excursion timing around lunch.
- Pack layers and snacks — Juneau temperatures average 55-65°F in summer with frequent rain. Bring a waterproof jacket, warm layers, and sealed kosher snacks. See our packing list.
- Rain is normal — Juneau averages 220+ days of rain per year. Don't let it stop you — the scenery is spectacular rain or shine.
- Book excursions early — Whale watching and Mendenhall Glacier tours sell out quickly, especially for large cruise ships. Book through the cruise line or independently well in advance.
- Walking distance attractions — Downtown Juneau and the Mount Roberts Tramway are walkable from the cruise terminal. No taxi needed for a half-day of exploration.
Port Guide
Juneau is a pier port — your ship docks directly at the Egan Drive Cruise Ship Terminal or the AJ Dock, both within easy walking distance of downtown. The port area has a visitor information center, shops, and tour operator desks.
Taxis and shuttle buses run from the port to Mendenhall Glacier (about 20 minutes). Most cruise line excursions pick up directly at the port. US dollars and credit cards are used everywhere — no currency exchange needed.
